Barry may have only joined our established team at Flex-R six years ago, but he has worked in the construction industry for 13 years and been selling for over 20, and it’s all that experience that resulted in a speedy promotion initially to the position of National Account Manager and then Sales Director for the business at the end of 2022.
His role now sees him leading a growing team of eight regionally based salespeople supporting specialist roofing merchants and contractors across the UK. The team is split into ASMs supporting contractors and BDMs that support merchants and they work out of two regional Flex-R facilities, that contain offices and warehouse, one in High Wycombe covering the South of England and the newer facility in Huddersfield covering the North of England. Barry also supports an internal salesperson in Huddersfield, and there is soon to be one in High Wycombe, working closely with the technical team to provide product advice and an appreciated service to their customer base.
“I really enjoy working in the roofing industry, we’ve built lots of trusted relationships over the years and that is absolutely key to the Flex-R business.” Said Barry. “Flex-R is a great business to work for, from the start I was giving the freedom to manage my territory and my ideas for growth were always supported. It’s a company that listens to the feedback from its customers and staff and that enables you to be the best you can be without being constricted. I use that principle with my team now and it makes for an enjoyable ride. I think that others must agree as we have many years of service and experience within the sales team.”
Barry has seen the Flex-R business develop over the past six years from being a business with a southern bias to a national player with the opening of the Huddersfield facility in 2018. He has also been personally involved in growing their Merchant Buying Group & National Account business over the years expanding the availability of the Flex-R EPDM flat roofing products to a broader range of contractors.
Final word from Barry: “Whilst I may have initially completed a degree in Media with a focus on TV Production and Sports at University, with a dream to become a Football Commentator, I have no regrets. I may have fallen into the roofing industry, but I thoroughly enjoy being emersed in it at Flex-R and working with great people.”
