Kai McFarlane joined Flex-R three years ago as Branch Manager for their High Wycombe branch which is the Southern Distribution and Training Centre for the business. He is no stranger to managing operations as he joined directly from a national builders merchant chain where he had worked for the previous five years, the latter few years managing five different depots across southern England.
Kai has now worked in the construction market for 8 years but before that, he had a 10-year career in the field of banking. He started in banking following a year of travelling after leaving school. His work began as a trainee cashier, then in sales, and mortgages and then as a branch manager. He attributes lots of the operational skills he uses today to the structured training programme he went through during his time in the banking industry.
He admits that the 3 years working at Flex-R is the longest he has stayed at any location and gives credit to the business that it is simply a great place to work and every day is different.
“It is a people-orientated business, and we all feel appreciated. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, and those touches make you feel valued. That enjoyment in the job reflects on the way we treat customers across the business. We always try to go the extra step to help them, and we are quick to react. The result is that we have built some strong customer relationships,” said Kai.
Kai and his team are responsible for processing customer orders through to ensuring they arrive safely precisely where and when they are required. The site includes administration, warehousing, and a customer training facility, so the operations are diverse & varied.
He is also quick to point out that Flex-R listens to its customers and is expanding its already comprehensive ClassicBond offer to include 4 metre and 5.08 metre wide membrane widths as a direct result of customer feedback.
