Capital Maintenance Funding for Academies and Colleges
The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) is an annual bidding round offered by Government for academies and sixth-form colleges to apply for capital funding. The main objective is to identify school buildings in need of repair, in order to keep them safe and in good working order.
Priority is usually given to projects which include roof, window and central heating replacements.
Who Can Apply?
Single academy trusts, small multi-academy trusts (MATs), sixth-form colleges and non-diocesan VA schools can apply for CIF.
To be eligible to apply for CIF funding, you must have been:
an open academy, sixth-form college or non-diocesan VA school as at September 2020
a school with a signed academy order as at September 2020 (if successful, you must have converted to academy status and had a funding agreement in place by 1 April 2020 to receive funding)
When can you apply?
The Condition Improvement Fund 2020 to 2021 is now closed for applications and successful applicants are announced in Spring 2020. Dates to apply for the next round of CIF funding will be announced in the Autumn of 2020.
Anyone considering applying should start preparation of their submission as early as possible. All entries require concise detail on expansion, improvement and renovation requirements.

How does it work?
Fully experienced Specification Managers will undertake a comprehensive roof survey to include condition reports, specifications, photographic evidence (internally as well as externally), appropriate drawings and initial costings. These are forwarded to the educational surveyors, who will then provide a consultation with the school to discuss the process and to construct a proposal to the CIF that will secure funding for any specific works. The services undertaken are provided at no cost to the school and should the bids be successful, the surveyors will then place the works out to tender.
Don’t wait until September to contact us, the earlier we can start the process of preparing the bid the more likely it will be successful. There is no financial commitment to the school at all, and there is no disadvantage if you contact us right now.
